First chapter to a comprehensive look at how Pennsylvania got to be settled with a description of the European colonists who emigrated to this state. Since religion played such an important part in their lives, it seemed appropriate to devote adequate space to descriptions of the many religions which governed their lives.
Then, Chapter 2 endeavors to explore the various occupations in which the Pennsylvania Dutch engaged. In the practice of many of their crafts and skills, their products were superior to those of the other colonies. And, particularly, in furniture making, their sophisticated skills, exemplified by the ornate furniture made in the urban centers of Philadelphia and elsewhere, set new standards of refinement for American craftmanship.
Chapter 3 explores the ramifications of designs of antique Pennsylvania country furniture. It is hoped that this chapter may catalog a comprehensive assortment of typical furniture made by the Pennsylvania Dutch.
Includes designs for 24 popular hex signs and measured drawings for building 50 representative pieces: chairs, tables, desks, and many more. 250 illustrations.
